Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Zingerman's Culinary Adventure Society

The first time I went to Paris, we also took the TGV to Lyon. The food we had there was so good, that we changed our plans to stay longer in Lyon just so we could eat more!

Cook the Book: 'How to Roast a Lamb'

Nigel Slater has a recipe for a lamb fillet marinated in mint that I love.

Mundelein, Illinois: Bill's Pizza & Pub

I grew up in Lake County and had many dinners out with my family at Bill's Pub. As kids, me and my brother and sister thought it was cool to just throw the peanut shells on the floor, and of course the arcade was a big draw. I laughed out loud at your description of it as a "cross between a family dining restaurant and a dive bar, with a bit of a hunting lodge thrown in for good measure" -- you really hit the nail on the head!

Pretty much anything that features pasta is bound to be a crowd-pleaser in my family.

Cook the Book: 'The Pioneer Woman Cooks'

I have the same favorites as a lot of other readers here: Smitten Kitchen is my number one, but hot on her heels is Orangette, Simply Recipes and Gluten-free Girl.

Cook the Book: Pumpkin Baking

My favorite pumpkin recipe is a Martha Stewart pumpkin pie recipe that uses fresh pumpkin instead of canned. It's amazing.

Cook the Book: 'Gourmet Today'

The first cookbook I remember buying was 1,000 Vegetarian Recipes. I was in college, living in a co-op at the time, and needed something to help me cook a vegetarian dinner once a week for 40 people. I probably thought the book was a bargain — with that many recipes, there would surely be loads of veggie crowd pleasers, right? Eh, let’s just say it’s no longer in my cookbook collection. The New Vegetarian Epicure was the second cookbook I bought, and has been much better loved.

Cook the Book: 'Zingerman's Guide to Better Bacon'

Do you really need a reason to love bacon? I agree with LizGiff -- I was a vegetarian for a time, but would miss bacon too much to go back now!

What Fall Foods Are You Excited For?

I just got bought a copy of Rustic Fruit Desserts by Julie Richardson and Cory Schreiber yesterday and can't wait to make the desserts with apples and pears, especially the apple cobbler with cheddar cheese biscuits and gingered pear and raspberry pandowdy.
