Closing The Book On Critic-Turned-Cook

Whatever else happens, I think you should continue working on that book. I know for a fact that you have material for a best-seller, if only some visionary publishing house has the imagination to see its potential. Until then, keep up the good work.

Critic-Turned-Cook Makes Vegetarian's First Fish In Decades

Just to set the record straight, I am the subject of LK's blog post. I was a vegetarian for 35 years and five months. My reasons for not eating meat were my own, and I've never tried to challenge anyone over their need to consume flesh. Over the past year I developed pancreatic problems that made it hard for me to digest fats ... or anything, actually. To combat a loss of muscle mass, which regular trips to the gym couldn't alleviate, a nutritionist I consulted -- a guy who himself had spent time as a vegetarian -- advised me to up my protein intake. And he advised me to eat fish. So as way to combat my health problems, I agreed. Since my LK-crafted meal, I have eaten fish -- more halibut, tuna, salmon -- a half dozen times. For the most part, it is delicious. And I seem to be digesting it fairly well. But, again for reasons that are purely my own, I will revert to being a veggie if I can do so without harming my health. I'll just have to see how things go. One thing I will never regret: eating LK's cooking. One, because she is an excellent cook; two, because it was one of the kindest things anyone has ever done for me. That meal was supplemented with a feeling of love that was, and still is, priceless.

Isn't Ramsay the guy who loves to use the F word? Maybe he'd be interested in hearing how well you can throw that word around. He'd truly be in the presence of greatness.

Critic-Turned-Cook Finds the Kitchen Can Be A Major Pain

You don't mention age, pal. Everything gets tougher the longer we keep at it. For you, having to cope with all the changes in your life over the past couple of years, it's a wonder you're still ambulatory. But that, too, is part of the story. Critic to cook, it's the human saga. Can't wait to read the final product. Until then, two words: massage therapy.

Laid-off Restaurant Critic's Plan B? Cook

You're an inspiration to many of us out-of-work journalists, LK. I hope, though, that I don't have to stand on my feet for eight or more hours at a time as you are doing. Or wear, uh, Danskos? Or worse, Crocs? Lets hope that there's a book in here somewhere. I'll read it.
