Hackney's in Chicago: The Best Underseasoned Mushy Burger in Town

I've only eaten at the Palos Park location. Maybe adding the salt and pepper would have helped, but I was never impressed by a Hackneyburger there.

'The Next Food Network Star' Season 5 Finale Breaks Cable Records

Obvious proof of what a crap show it is and how it needs to go off the air. Surely Bob and Susie will decide to call it quits now.

Video: Doctor Who Tries to Call U.N.I.T., Gets Pizza Geronimo Instead

Tennant is a great Doctor, but I'm hard pressed to put him above Baker. FWIW, if there *was* a Pizza Geronimo, it would more likely be in Cardiff than London.

Oh, wow - only one useless comment about how this show sucks - must be a first.... Melissa's still my pony. I think she's gained a lot of credibility by home-cooking as well as the 'pros'. On the downside there *are* already a lot of home cooks on FN, but maybe they're looking to cycle one out?

@JPEater good points. I'd definitely pass on Debbie's show, though. Unless she showed REAL Asian cuisine. I've yet to see anyone show me how to use the other 90% of the items at the Asian food mart.

Looks like I have to pick a new pony. I guess I'll go with Melissa now. The challenges were completely stupid, though. I'd love to see Bobby Flay in Kitchen Stadium without his spices or grill and watch him choke on his tears.

Still quite a few weak links here, but everyone's got troubles. Melissa and Jeffrey are completely forgettable, Michael really needs to work on the presentation skills, Debbie needs more focus and Jamika needs to get her groove back (though I still think she'll be the next star).

Folks that comment here just to trash the show and the rest of us commenting on it really need to get a life. This is still Tamika's to win. There's at least four chefs that need to get eliminated before this even starts getting to be a contest. It will take a miracle for Katie to last another week.

Wow. This one's getting a lot of play. Bobby certainly has his followers... The foodies are probably going to hate me, but I love Fuddruckers burgers. Fresh, good texture, cooked perfectly to order, and a buffet of fixin's so you can do whatever you want. I usually go for grilled onions, mayo, shredded lettuce and tomatoes.

New Wonder Bread Logo

@pomme: my first impression exactly.

Wonder is what you feed to kids who are too picky to eat real bread. It's going to take a lot more than a logo to appeal to a more sophisticated consumer.

Burger King Burger Shots

Yay! Burger buddies are back! The old buns were soooo tasty, I hope they're at least similar. And yeah, they came in pairs, like conjoined baby burgers, each with a half slice of cheese. Thickness of meat is the same as a standard burger, so dryness should be similar. Grill marks are of course real.

Hackney's in Chicago: The Best Underseasoned Mushy Burger in Town

@DanielZemans: Hi Daniel, I came off wrong, it won't be the first time.:) I was weighing the fact that they actually made it rare, which seems to be the first place that "burger joints" err. As a customer, I would have overlooked the lacked of seasoning and been overjoyed that they didn't over-cook it. However, you were there to critique, which is simply what you did. So, I take back the unfair comment.

Hackney's in Chicago: The Best Underseasoned Mushy Burger in Town

@ALRUI: It's possible that the griddle wasn't hot enough, but the medium rare buffalo burger was also mushy.

@RossS: I agree that the problems are with the work Hackney's does, not with the quality of their ingredients. But Hackney's took good ingredients and failed to season them well and then failed to cook them well. How does my writing about that make the review unfair?

Kuma's has changed their fries to waffle and they are not as good. They used to have med-thick cut potatoes which were much better. I can never go, either, due to the wait times. But the handful of times I have gone over the past few years I've never had an overcooked burger.

From A Hamburger Today

Top 5: Daniel Zemans' Favorite Burgers in Chicago

I went to Kuma's last month and we got there at 5 pm on a Friday afternoon and just barely beat the rush. I had a Motorhead and my boyfriend had the Slayer and while the Slayer was good but not really an interesting flavor profile, the Motorhead was unbelievable. The pretzel rolls make a great sturdy base for what can really turn into a mess of a burger. Yes, they are a little overcooked, but so damn good I'll just have to look past it.

Add eggs or chorizo or whatever your heart desires. Most taquerias around here have this basic version, then you can add things like eggs, chorizo, carnitas, etc.

This list is far too steakhouse-heavy to be of my tastes. I'm more of a "top-notch" style burger eater. I like steakhouse burgers just fine, but give me something simple and classic.

Both David Burke's and Kuma's Corner made it into Chicago magazine's burger list too. I will need to try these.

Hackney's isn't bad but I personally thoroughly enjoy Charlie Beinlich's. They sometimes have weird hours but if you catch them - they've got one hell of a burger!

I'm from Indiana and the state is famous for it's corn and popcorn (Orville Redenbacher was a Hoosier.) We're also famous for pork tenderloin sandwiches, though I haven't been impressed with the few I've had since I moved here. We have Sugar Cream Pie, too, which is self-explanatory.

Im from Nebraska and one would guess corn or beef. But personally, I would say it is our local heritage foods such czech kolatches, German bierocks, polish sausages. Many folks here revel in sharing thier food traditions that thier ancestor have brought to the plains. So much so that it feels like local food to me.
