Ciccio's Pizza

Quick correction.. Ciccio's is in Gravesend, not Bensonhurst.
There is a huge monument to Lady Moody, who founded the area in
the early 17th century, right outside the Pizzeria.
The neighborhood has a different feel than Bensonhurst, and Italians from other parts of the mezzogiorno.

Ciccio is a character and honestly friendly man who's been at it for
25 years there.

His sauce is light and tangy, with a not overbearing helping of regular
shred mozz. Real keu here is his crust, which usually is medium
thick with a crisp and keeps it's form nicely when folded.
The sesame really does work because his dough is light with
a nutty undertone and the crust takes on the seeds rich flavor.

Not a exactly the standard slice you think your in for,
Real pleasant tangy crunchy surprise.
Other than L&B not far away, a last of a dying breed in the area, as
the demograph changes.

Brooklyn Democrat Group To Host Pizza Contest

How has Nino's, especially it's Grandma and thin slice Sicilian's, failed to hit the radar of the pizzarazzi from NY Magazine, Time Out and the NYT's?!

What kind of political/pretentious crap is keeping them from reaching the top 10 in this city. I have lived in NYC my whole life and have eaten miles of Pizza. They make a pie as unique and notable as L&B or Grimaldi's.
Granted the atmosphere is sterile , but the first time I tasted some of the offerings I was weak in the knee's. Totally didn't expect it.

Fantastic, this is really a undiscovered gem. There should be pilgrims to the Grandma pie here the same way we schlep to DiFara's. Take the express into Bay Ridge and get a pie from the old Lento's oven at Canteena, then on to Nino's to stuff your face. Don't miss this one if you love the NY pie.

You Can Tell by the Way I Fold My Slice

Lenny's has never really been more than a mediocre pie, but the joint is typical of an old school Brooklyn pizzeria that anyone who grew up here would remember fondly. The days when there was literally a pizzeria, bakery and deli/bagel shop on every (and I mean every) block.

I worked for a while at a sporting goods store a few blocks from Lenny's and couldn't resist buying two stacked slices and strutting to work in my
sharp shoes one morning.

Lenny's is about a little lost piece of time that existed under the 86th street El in Bensonhurst in the 70's. Good and bad, there were characters you won't forget.
If you make the trip, look for the framed posters of a young Travolta and Stallone both wearing fur coats. Priceless.

Lento's

Unfortunately, Canteena is an Old El Passo esque Mexican joint with pretty pedestrian food. The environment is Bay Ridge frat drinking types, so having a Lento's pie there is just not the same.
As least the old beat up Lento's had the old NY dive charm that's hard to come by these Disney days.

You should check out Yellow Hook Grille, which replaced it.
The pie isn't on par with Lento's, but they did a great job renovating and
it ain't bad for a bar pie.

I did not care for the Yellow Hook Grille. The Canteena doesn't have any atmosphere, but it has the pizza. Yellow Hook Grille is very generic. None of the food is worth eating.
