Chicago Essential: Burt's Place

I'm in favor of Slice having a wordfilter that changes all instances of the word 'casserole' into increasingly embarrassing innuendos. Or simply 'pizza' to mess with the 'casserolers'.

gogurt, I hope you see this. I'm going to be heading to Swarthmore this fall for my freshman year. Having had the luck of coming across this thread, I was hoping that maybe I could get some guidance / suggestions from you on how to get the most out Sharples and maybe restaurant suggestions for the surrounding areas. Thanks, and I apologize to everyone for resurrecting a dead thread (SE badly needs a messaging system).

@ecca31 I had seen something about the French Meadow Cafe, glad to see someone on here recommends it.

@erineats I live in Alaska, so I'm all too familiar with being shameless about going to a chain because it isn't available where you live.

Well, thank you guys. If anyone else has suggestions, feel free to make them, but right now I think FMC is how I'll probably go.

It took me a couple of readings through the thread and a Google search to figure out with 100% certainty that this was not in fact a recreation from some sort of food service area within the clothing store (ala IKEA) that apparently did not exist any more. The soup looks amazing.

I love that people still haven't figured out the concept that not liking part of a website does not warrant reaction equal to that of witnessing Hitler attempting to rape their grandmother. The sky is not falling, nor is SE heading into some sort of death spiral. SE is a community of and for people who are interested in food. Your idea of who the members of that community should be and what topics they should discuss does not validate your license to backseat manage the website. If you have an issue with the direction of the SE website, why not start an actual conversation (like the kind you think has become non-existent) rather than throwing a temper tantrum in the comment section of a post?

Chicago's Art of Pizza: A Shining Beacon of Stuffed Pizza Excellence

Could the anti-deep dish / stuffed pizza crowd please come up with a new response besides calling said pizza a casserole?

Also, in anticipation of responses, American food is regional, and in my opinion, if it's an established food of a certain region, you accept whatever they decided to call the food, rather than where it falls in your own food nomenclature, simply to avoid pointless semantic arguments.

The Burger Lab: The Myth of The 12-Year-Old McDonald's Hamburger

I'm sorry, but really? Why would McDonalds use a vegetable that is mostly water and has its own unique taste when trying to make their hamburgers? And for that matter, I seriously doubt kale is cheaper in the United States than beef, especially when you consider that it would have to be cooked down and pulverized before they could even consider using it in a burger.

What's your "Death Row" meal?

Hiroshima style okonomiyaki, eaten right off the griddle. With Calpis to drink, followed by a desert of Asian pastries, yuzu and matcha ice creams, and sencha to drink. In the case I don't want a Japanese send off, I think I would spring instead for home made deep fat fried pork tenderloin sandwiches, followed up with a pie made by my mom, and hot coffee.
