Are foodies Democrats or Republicans?
I'm a registered Democrat, but I believe in voting for who I think would be the best leader for this great country of ours. That doesn't always mean it would be a Democrat, but this time that is definately the case! I have voted Republican in the past....Reagan.. years ago.
Just please everyone.....VOTE!! It is so IMPORTANT! If you don't vote...keep your mouth shut and don't even try to talk politics with me.
What do foodies do?
In the past, I've always worked in either the entertainment industry (musician) or in Sales. I am now the happy owner of a small little catering company in Nashville. I only work smaller events because I want to keep it focused more on quality and fun. I don't want to turn my love of food into a chore!!
Who's Hotter? Young Colicchio vs. Young Bourdain
Tom Collicio to Prom (he'd definately photograph better) but for sure Tony for the After Prom. But, I'd be the Designated Driver!!

Good eats from Costco?
The Pot Stickers in the Frozen Food section are so easy and Delicious! They make any housewarming or holiday get together really festive and smart. Not your every day finger food. Make a dipping sauce with some soy sauce, mirren, rice wine vinegar, freshly grated ginger, scallions and a little chili oil ( if you want some heat). Good, good, good!
Dinner Tonight: Fried Green Tomato BLT
Brioche and fried green tomatoes!! Now that's a City Mouse meets Country Mouse version!!
Is there any such thing as summer comfort food?
Long, slow, smoked Pork butt, potato salad, smokey and sweet baked beans, creamy cole slaw and a big glass of sweet tea. Now that sounds like Southern Comfort Food to me!!
More Golden Clog Award Fallout
I LOVE Tyler FLorence and I enjoy Tony Bourdain. I would rather spend the day with Tony and the night with.....well you get it. Either way I'd get a great meal!!
Anthony Bourdain, I AM NOT SOUTHERN
I think I've learned more about different cultures from watching Tony than any other shows on TV. Because I care about and am interested iin food, I will sit and watch and really learn something. Not only does he discuss the food of the region, he also shows us their customs, religious rites and real people from the area. Tony Bourdain doesn't have to be in your living room....if you like his show, watch it. If you don't like it turn to the Food Network and nobody will offend you there.
The Next Food Network Star Season Finale
I starting "rooting" for Aaron about midway thru the competition. It was a really close match up of talent, but for me it came down to who I would rather watch and be "entertained" by. Aaron is the best fit for the newest lineup of Foodnetwork Celeb chefs. Last year, Amy beat out Rory because of the audience vote and then fell flat when it came to personality for the screen. No doubt she's a talented cook...not so much someone I'd set the Tevo for. I also think that by airing "Big Daddy's Kitchen" directly after the competion will keep viewers interested and not forgetting why they cared in the first place, 6 months after the fact. I'm a fan, Big Daddy...Good Luck!
Beer Cola-Can Chicken
The flavored juice drinks in the Mexican section at the supermarket are also a good choice. They come in a can (like Colas) and in flavors like Peach, Nectar, Pear, etc. The Nectar is great with a brown sugar based rub. Gotta love the looks of that chicken sitting up there getting all pretty!!!
SCHLURP!!!!!!!!
Good Eats in San Antonio?
Mi Tierra in the old market square is great for authentic Mexican food. Great place to shop for souveniers also.
Best Breakfast in Nashville
I live in Nashville and if you are looking for a real Nashville tradition...check out Pancake Pantry on 21st (near Vanderbilt University). Get there early cause there is always a line and almost always a famous face or two on the weekends!!
Key Lime Pie Recipe
I receive your newsletters and have been a member for a couple of months now. Doing a Food Blog Google search I came across your request for a Key Lime pie recipe. Please check mine out on my blog at
Dinner Tonight: Fried Green Tomato BLT
I am a year late too, but I needed a fried tomato recipe. Just for fun I planted a tomato plant and I didn't get too many ripened tomatoes, but I was just out at my garden and I have several green tomatoes and I thought that would be great for dinner. Thanks!
Beer Cola-Can Chicken
What would be the specifics for cooking this in an oven?
Thanks!
Dinner Tonight: Fried Green Tomato BLT
kundrycooks: Thanks a lot. Stilton sounds like a great update. I might have to try that!
Dinner Tonight: Fried Green Tomato BLT
I know it's a year since you posted that, but I just stumbled across it today. Lunch was the question, and the bumper crop of fair size heirloom tomatoes growing in the upside-down contraption as well as the latest crop of micro greens... enter YOUR BLT....
we loved it.... I use no-flour squirrely bread slices, smoked pork jowl in lieu of bacon (yumm that flavor), and said micro greens... husband devoured 2. I stuck with one, but had the tiniest bit of Stilton left. So I smeared that on half the sandwich. O M G.... heaven
and you know, I'll tweet this recipe again today
Good eats from Costco?
Here is a blog about Costco. Maybe you can go there and get some ideas:
www.addictedtocostco.com
Here's my list:
72oz of chocolate chips (I like to bake)
eggs 18 for $1.25
I've heard milk is cheaper there
spinach cheese ravioli from the frozen section is good
Kirkland rice snacks
Stacy's pita chips goes great with Sabra hummus
Who's Hotter? Young Colicchio vs. Young Bourdain
But the question really is: Jew-fro or wench?
Who's Hotter? Young Colicchio vs. Young Bourdain
Bourdain makes the perfect slacker, semi-stalkerish ex-boyfriend you just can't quit!
Who's Hotter? Young Colicchio vs. Young Bourdain
Tom for sure. Tony looks to much like my dad...both young tony and current tony!
Beer Cola-Can Chicken
This is a spin off of the original Beer Can Chicken that is absolutely fabulous!!! Why would you want to stray from the original?? I suggest you try this with a half a can of beer with some onions and peppers added, rather than a "cola." That is unless your religion prohibits the use of acohol, but then that never stopped you before. HA HA
Sunday Brunch: Ina Garten's Hashed Browns: Best Ever?
If it's adapted from Ina, it's got to be good. I forgot about Family Style. I haven't used it in a long time. My favorite books of hers are the first one and the last one. I can't wait for the new one - I still don't have it but will most likely purchase it this weekend.
Thanks for the reminder. Looks just wonderful. As expected.

Sunday Brunch: Ina Garten's Hashed Browns: Best Ever?
I love all of the recipes that Ina has in her cookbook. I've tried so many of them and haven't had one I was disappointed with.
Sunday Brunch: Ina Garten's Hashed Browns: Best Ever?
Um, dbcurrie, I'm afraid you are not correct: synonyms ensure , insure , assure , secure mean to make a thing or person sure. ensure , insure, and assure are interchangeable in many contexts where they indicate the making certain or inevitable of an outcome, but ensure may imply a virtual guarantee (the government has ensured the safety of the refugees), while insure sometimes stresses the taking of necessary measures beforehand (careful planning should insure the success of the party), and assure distinctively implies the removal of doubt and suspense from a person's mind (I assure you that no harm will be done). Secure implies action taken to guard against attack or loss (sent reinforcements to secure their position). Now, please pass the potatoes!
Sunday Brunch: Ina Garten's Hashed Browns: Best Ever?
I think this "hashed" vs. "hash" business is a regional thing. I've been eating "hashed" browns for more than a half-century, and in the Deep South, so far as I know, they've never been prepared with corned beef, but then corned beef (unless you're talking about that disgustingly gelatinous mass in a tin) isn't big in my part of the South. And on an only slightly different subject, Ina's Basil Chicken Hash (imagine "When Harry Met Sally..." moans and gasps). This stuff is sinfully delicious, though you'll have to track the recipe at Food Network site; it's not in "...at Home".
Sunday Brunch: Ina Garten's Hashed Browns: Best Ever?
In the interest of full disclosure, Ina Garten herself apparently refers to a dish of crispy, crunchy, delectable browned potatoes as "hashed" browns and there is no mention of meat in her recipe. Could this word "hashed" v. "hash" be one of those "regional" things like icing v. frosting? Stay tuned. I sense another SE debate on this subject...
I like my hashed browns with corned beef in them.
I agree. When I read the title of this thread, I assumed (dangerous!) there would be corned beef somewhere in this equation. And phraseology does make a difference.
I saw the following dish on a diner menu: Corned Beef With Eggs and happily ordered it, expecting some incarnation of corned beef wend its way to my plate. The waitress presented me with a plate of greasy slop instantly recognizable as Hormel "corned beef hash" from a CAN with its vulgar pellets of potato-like substance, swimming in pinkish gray-ness. "What is this?" I asked. "Corned Beef Hash with Eggs, as you ordered," replied the waitress. "No, I ordered CORNED BEEF with EGGS - the word 'hash' was never mentioned, exactly as on your menu. Take this away, bring me two blueberry pancakes and PRAY that my stomach can get over its queasiness long enough to eat them."
ensure, not insure...
This has obviously been fixed in the main story. Now puhleeeeeease can we, the dedicating reading and posting public here at SE have an edit button?
Lovin' this SE Universe, BTW.
Sunday Brunch: Ina Garten's Hashed Browns: Best Ever?
These are actually home-fries in my neck of the woods - hash browns are shredded potatoes, not cubed.
That being said, the best hash browns, IMO, are the ones made from the leftover potatoes from a pot roast. This give them a real extra flavor kick. If you don't have any, you can almost get the same effect by cooking the potatoes in some beef stock or bouillion. Almost, but not quite.
One you have these yummy potatoes, proceed with recipe above.
Sunday Brunch: Ina Garten's Hashed Browns: Best Ever?
I hate to step in and give a comment about a comment, but...
Hashbrowns are many things to many people, depending on where you live. While you may believe that hashbrowns are shredded potatoes, do not try and serve that in Canada, they will run you out. Here, hashbrowns are small diced potatoes fried until they are crisp.

Definitely Tom - Peachfish was right about the other guy looking like Herman Munster!
Are foodies Democrats or Republicans?
Hi, I'm Claire and I support Barack Obama, but I don't feel like giving an elaborate explanation
What do foodies do?
I am a retired restaurant owner. I was forced to retire because the state purchased one property for the Tollway Authority headquarters, and then another authority bought my other restaurant for construction of a railroad overpass. Since I miss the food business so much, I just put in an 800 sq. ft. kitchen, and cook, eat, and drink all the time with friends and family.
What do foodies do?
I sizzle, chop and saute for 10 hours a day as head chef for one of Australias most well known celebrity chefs- Bill Granger, in his iconic Sydney restaurant Bills.
What do foodies do?
Editor -- professional dev. books for educators. But I'd love to work on food or design books...any offers?
What do foodies do?
On a medical benefit, voluntary work in the community and occasionally looking for paid employment... "boring" stuff compared to some of you guys! (@ you FastFoodCritic! ;-) )

About Comfortcook
Website: http://www.comfortcook.blogspot.com
Location: Nashville TN
About: I've been cooking for a hundred years, seems like. I get great pleasure from watching people eat my food. I'd rather eat a dozen "small Bites" of a dozen different foods than sit down to a big formal dinner.
Favorite foods: Fresh vegetables, Pork, Beef, Cheeses, good home cooking, sushi, Italian, mediterranean, Olives, tomatoes,REAL Mexican, Tex-Mex and Pizza
Last bite on earth: Probably someting with pork...BBQ or roasted. And I'd have some cheeses and a big romaine salad with Bleu Cheese dressing on the side.
And a strawberry. And a piece of Chicago Deep Dish pizza with a side order of Italian Beef.
