Get to Know Us: Scarlett Lindeman, Mexican Eats

I work with a lot of Mexicans - undocumented guys who have real ties to Mexico and vivid memories of their lives there (some up until a few years ago). The funny thing is that I NEVER hear them say the Mexican food here sucks. I wonder what that says? There is a world outside of blogosphere recommendations, people.

Giveaway: Pat LaFrieda's Big App For Meat, Released in Apple Store Today

Gotta love beef tongue! I cook loads of that stuff. If people weren't grossed out that it's actually a tongue, it would be on menus all across NYC.

Win Tickets To Brooklyn Beefsteak, September 25

7.9 pounds. I'm not here to take glory away from the champ. I'm just here for the beef.

Win Tickets to FRIED at the New York Wine & Food Festival

My Mom's House. Not a restaurant. Literally, my mom's house. FC tastes best when it's fried fresh with clean oil and comes from the finger tips of a loved one. That woman fries everything!

Win Tickets to Three-Course Beer Dinner With Edible Manhattan

Peter Clemenza: Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.

Now that's someone who takes food seriously.

Slice Poll: Do You Blot the Grease from Your Pizza?

I can't believe Slice used the 99 cent slice for the photo.

another outerborough culinary adventure question

I like to go to Flushing and visit the huge Korean grocery stores. They always have great prices and free samples! The two that stick out in my mind is H mart both in Downtown Flushing. One of them has a great food court and both of them have good Korean restaurants in the surrounding area.

How would you christen a Le Creuset?

The man is right. There's nothing like a nice brisket. I also like a beef tenderlion. Congrats on your purchase!

here's the real reason not to eat in the subway

Things not to do in a subway car: 1) clip your fingernails 2) eat a stinky sandwich with onions 3) peel a citrus fruit. Other things are equally as annoying but these seem to happen most frequently - besides bags of McDonald's, of course, but I don't think you should EVER eat MickeyD's.

Visiting Family in the Bronx-ideas for can't miss places?

When you're in Manhattan, try The Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridian and Menchanko-Tei, for Japanese noodles. Sarabeth's East when you're visiting the Guggenheim and Alice's Teacup when near AMNH. Have a great time!

First date spots...

I like to have the option of intimacy and change over to some fun if the mood strikes. That's why Angel's Share and Village Yokocho is so perfect. Angel's Share is dimly lit, classy and has a speakeasy prohibition vibe with it's maroon leather seating and classic decor. They have a great cocktail and the most professional waitstaff. Small, hidden in the back of a fast-paced kitschy Japanese tapas restaurant called Village Yokocho. Have drinks and food at Angel's Share and if the pace picks up, have some more in the brighter, energized Village Yokocho. The perfect fist date!

Quick bite in Dumbo?

It's not exactly Dumbo but right next door is Vinegar Hill House. You will die it's so good. You won't regret it.

Super Bowl Giveaway: Pig Pickin' and Wings from RUB

This is Righteous Urban Barbeque we're talking here -- not some fancy schmancy joint pairing pork with red, red, red wine. The Hillbilly Triangle formed by Indiana, Louisiana and Florida calls for jugs of fine back water swill. For Super Bowl 44, this seventh day of February in the year of our Lord two thousand ten, the drink of choice shall be Jack Daniels with a Miller High Life back.

Lunch for One: Great NY Noodletown

That's why I love getting something I didn't order but is delicious nonetheless. It gives me a reason to come back the next day!

The Grand Central Dilemma

I say stop out of the train station, walk 2 blocks up and to go 45th st between 3rd and Lex and get a hot bowl of noodles at Menchanko Tei or Hop Won Express. They're a couple doors down from each other, cheap and serve the best noodles.

Best Meal under $8 Below 20th in Manhattan?

It may be an oldie, but a goodie. Dollar for dollar, you can't beat a falafel sandwich on Macdougal for $2.50. One of the last great deals in NYC. Mamoun's is ok but Yatagan's is amazing.

Only the Best Hogies, Heros and Subs

Ok folks, any opinions on who makes hero's the best in New York City?

Is there a better cheap eats list besides New York Magazine?

I was just referred to this site to find cheap eats restaurants in the city. http://www.cheapeatery.com/restaurants/tehuitzingo/menu/. It was recommended to me to find a great cheap mexican restaurant but it has tons of other places too. And all of the restaurants are $10 and under. There's actually a cheaper restaurant section too called Super Cheap Eateries that serve meals for under $6. Crazy.

What's the best cheap mexican restaurant in Manhattan?

I been to the Red Hook ball fields many times and have even made the trek out to Sunset Park for some proper Mexican food but that's just a bit too time consuming for me. Can I get some opinions on the best cheap Mexican restaurants in the city? And don't even think about saying Fresco Tortilla!
