History of Yoshoku, the Japanese Version of Western Food
I've had some of that ketchup spaghetti....yuck, to say the least! I couldn't help but wonder how an *authentic* italian spaghetti would go over. ;)
Omu rice though....mmmmm!

Thanks for the mention Robyn! I agree, this looks soooo yummy! :D
What I finny about this is that, if this commercial were made in America, it'd be selling some processed food, as opposed to more "natural" meat.
This is so cute! I love Moby and his pancakes look delicious!
Heh heh...Peep in a chocolate boat. XD
I LOVE Mari's blog, thanks for featuring it Robyn! :)
Taberaretai! :)
I've had these gummis before, they are GOOOD!
Or should I say "Oishii"?
My aunt adds a layer of geltanized milk between each flavored layer for a cool striped look - a childhood favorite.
Good news - I just talked to the folks at Baldinger's yesterday and they're saving the store. They found a new (and larger) location up the road and will move in sometime in July.
New address is 519 Perry Highway (across from the Exxon station).
@CandyAddictSera: 'Authentic' Italian restaurants do just fine in Japan, and live happily with restaurants serving yohshoku - just like Italian-American places that serve very unauthentic fare as far as the 'purists' go like spaghetti with meatballs and bright red sauce do in the U.S. (try finding that in Italy! But it's delcious anyway, no?)
because yoshoku cuisine sometimes seems like our parallel evil twin universe's take, totally delish in a weird and warped way
I just saw this a couple of months ago and immediately shared it with everyone I knew, to mixed reactions, haha. I agree with corycm -- it's creepy and funny, but mostly wonderful, haha.
That so lovely!!! I love jello! I want a bite of that!
My family makes this. I also make Broken Glass jello.
OOOOOOOOH! The colors, man, the colors!
Yah, know yah gotta love Jell-o for what it is. And you can do some cool stuff with it. Now it isn't creme brulee or the perfect fourless chocolate cake, but it is a comfort food in a weird sort of way.
