Backyard Orchards Are Busting Out All Over

Have you ever read Gravity's Rainbow? In the book there's a guy who has a banana tree in London, in a greenhouse on the roof of a building. Being fiction and all, I'm sure it's not a very reliable source, but maybe the guy from Williamsburg should have tried a little glassing-in project.

A little bonsai peach tree would be incredibly adorable... but my little apartment will have to stick with potted herbs, I'm afraid.

Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Trail of Crumbs'

Banana nut muffins, like my mom makes, and apple juice.

Or really dark chocolate. Depends on how much stress.

Cook the Book: Win a Copy of 'Cook with Jamie'

My mother and my father gave me a love for food, and a fondness for developing dishes myself instead of sticking firmly to recipes. Now I'm teaching myself.

Cook the Book: Chocolate Sablés

My favorite chocolate recipe is for an amazing chocolate cheesecake. The recipe is actually on a postcard I picked up from the "Free" pile at the local independent bookstore. I think it was part of a promotion for some recipe book. What a find! The cheesecake is dark, dense, crustless, and overwhelmingly delicious.

Gin and tonics are my favorite for something cool to drink while sitting on my patio.

Mint juleps! Forget mojitos, I prefer this classic work of art in bourbon, mint, sugar and ice - the perfect compliment to relaxing on a porch swing or rocker.

Give me a refreshing Gordon's Cup made with cucumber and limes - you can add a splash of Midori for extra pizazz!

I love a Sea Breeze - vodka, cranberry juice, and a squeeze of fresh lime. Ahhh!

Cherry limeade, made with club soda and not plain water. Fizzy and fresh and cold, it hits all the right spots.

I have recently been drinking watermelon slushies!
They taste great and they're low-cal. Just put crushed ice and watermelon cubes in a blender for about 5 seconds and you have a great summertime drink!

My fave summer drink is a big pitcher of Sangria, with fresh peach slices and other summer fruits floating in it...its like a snack and an alcoholic bevvie and a thirst quencher, all in one! (And I would share the pitcher, in case anyone was wondering...)
