Question of the Day: What are you ashamed to admit you use?

I buy a box of those premade Jimmy Dean Sausage Egg and Cheese Biscuits every week, and I eat one for breakfast every day. I also use instant grits, frozen yeast rolls, and boxed mac and cheese.

Do you eat weekday breakfast? If so, what?

Jimmy Dean sausage egg and cheese biscuits, that I buy in a red box from the meat case at Walmart. They are surprisingly good.

Question of the Day: What's your favorite candy bar?

Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate bar. I'm diabetic, so can't eat an entire one all at once, but I break off one of the little squares and let it melt in my mouth every other day or so.

What goes into your ultimate sandwich (bread, spreads, filling)?

My absolute favorite is the classic BLT, with iceberg lettuce and homegrown southern tomatoes.

A close second is deli roast beef, sharp cheddar cheese. mayo, and spicy mustard on rye bread.

Question of the Day: What's the 'J' on your PBJ?

I live in North Carolina, where Garner's jams and jellies are made. The best preserves, bar none, in the entire country are Garner's cherry preserves. Garner's also makes Texas Pete hot sauce, which is available in many areas of the country, but they are a small, family controlled business here in NC. They also make blackberry preserves and grape jam. If you ever see it in your supermarket, try it. I guarantee you will love it.

What one food are you ashamed to admit you like?

Plain corn tortillas dipped in refried beans from a can. Dinty Moore Beef Stew with chopped onion in it. Canned vienna sausages on white bread with catsup. Okay, I guess that's 3, and I haven't even scratched the surface.

What can't you cook after, trying over and over again?

I can't seem to make any kind of yeast dough. I'd love to be able to make fresh bread, or glazed doughnuts, or cinnamon rolls, and I have tried many times. But the dough never rises like it's supposed to. I have never had any luck with this.

Question of the Day: What's your earliest food-related memory?

My Grandmother had a damson tree in her yard. I remember the taste of her damson pies, sweet, yet delightfully tangy.

Another fond memory I have is the soggy tomato sandwiches we ate at church during Bible School. The tomatoes had been in somebody's garden that very morning. The ladies would make up a bunch of sandwiches for our snack time, and the bread would get somewhat soggy from the juicy tomatoes. It was wonderful!

Question of the Day: What food can't you live without?

Onions. Without onions, my world would be a very bland place.

I am giving up pancakes for Lent.

Question of the Day: What's the worst meal someone's ever cooked for you?

One of the first attempts by my hubby to cook dinner after I had a stroke. A stir fry of chicken, broccoli, onion, and water chestnuts. Wouldn't have been half bad, but to begin with, the pan was not hot enough. He also didn't have a clue as to when each thing should be added, and as a result, the chicken was only half done, the onions were burned black, and broccoli was cooked to mush. On top of all that, he added way too much cornstarch to the slurry, and the whole dish looked like it had already been eaten and rejected by someone else's stomach. But in the name of respect for his efforts, I choked a few bites down.

What's the one food you just won't eat?

I won't eat bananas or anything with bananas in it. They don't agree with me and even the smell turns me off. Yuck!

From Talk

What's the one food you just won't eat?

I will absolutely not eat beets, oatmeal, raisins (or any other dried fruit for that matter) and chunks of cooked carrots (when I use carrots in soups, I grate them or cut into tiny matchsticks, then they don't bother me, but I simply cannot bite into a chunk of a cooked carrot). I will not eat most cooked fish (other than Chilean sea bass, but only prepared in a certain way). Oops. it was supposed to be "the one food" I won't eat...[hanging head in shame]

From Talk

What's the one food you just won't eat?

Olives and mushrooms.

You know, I just can't stand their...texture.
It's sort of like tomatoes.
I mean, it took me a while to tolerate tomatoes, but olives and mushrooms are "new" to me, I guess, considering tomatoes have been pushed on me since I was a kid.

Also, raisens and cotton candy. Ew.

Question of the Day: What are you ashamed to admit you use?

Kraft Mac & cheese here, too! Except I add a dash of paprika, a grind of black pepper and a pinch of red curry to it! That w/ sauted, garlicky cube steaks is my hub's favorite meal.

Question of the Day: What are you ashamed to admit you use?

Boxed mac n cheese is my guilty pleasure - I think it tastes better than homemade! And I, too, have a large jar of pre-minced garlic in the referigerator. And maybe some Rice-a-Roni in the pantry...

In a pinch...jarred roasted red peppers, pesto, roasted tomatoes...all Trader Joe's. That place saves my a$$!

Question of the Day: What are you ashamed to admit you use?

I always feel rather ashamed when I order out...And there's a bag of potstickers in my freezer that are rather high in sodium and fat and are not in any way organic, but I love them so.
