TV snacking

My family and I are all over the map -- we all sometimes crave fruit for post dinner TV snacking, like cubed melon, berries, grapes, bananas, orange slices, etc. But my father also loves roasted peanuts, my mother has recently taken a liking to a fruit/nut trail mix, and I'm anywhere from cookies and milk to potato chips/crackers (Goldfish have been a current favorite), or yogurt. We don't discriminate between snack options :)

Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 144: How Do You Avoid a Halloween Candy Diet Disaster?

I don't know anymore about this holiday... I used to just have fun costuming up and spending the time running around with friends with the candy being an awesome bonus. This year, as an adult, I actually got trick or treaters on Nov. 1st (sans costume). Did anyone else experience this?!?

what's so great about wooden cutting boards?

My mom has used the same bamboo cutting board for as long as I can remember. It's super thick, and heavy enough to cause a serious head injury. She's used it for chopping everything -- veggies, chicken, pork, etc -- and no one in the family ever got sick. It's great on knives, easy to clean, and is the only thing I want to inherit. Screw you, plastic!

-- Luncheonette * Steven Sorrentino * Another memoir. A son takes over his father's luncheonette in New Jersey after a health scare, where he comes to terms with his family, his sexuality, and his life. Awesome.

When I worked at a pizzeria not too long ago, it wasn't unusual for customers to order their pizzas in quarters -- two slices one topping, two slices another.... even on busy Friday nights when the poor pie guy was already working on a million other orders.

How Do Your Eating Habits Change in Summer?

I'm with deglazer -- even with the excruciating heat, thank goodness for air conditioning because it still keeps all avenues of food open. But if I know that I'm going to be spending the day out or down the shore, then it's all about grilling, pizza slices, salads, fruit, cold treats. I simply can't do anything fried or heavy when I'm in a bikini. Just can't.
