Tried anything new recently?

I had Durian flavored Ice cream. It was seriously g-ross! Tasted like onion-garlic ice cream.

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: La Quercia

I love it wrapped around my finger, I just leave the finger on my hand! I also like it used as a wrap for sticky rice with kimchi on the side.

Mixed Review: Trader Joe's Beer Bread

it's great for biscuits and muffins too. I've used sparkling water for biscuits and dried apples and sparkling apple cider for a sweet version. it's awesome with crispy bacon and cheese curds folded into the mix. its a nice, blank slate for your bread making kneeds (get it?)

don't forget the jerky! turkey, bison, beef! You can get it at TJ's or elsewhere. They are a great protein source and you can rehydrate the meat to go with other meals

Afghanistan-friendly recipes?

hey ChicnDumplin. Are you or his family located near a trader joe's? I work there and I have a coworker who's husband who is stationed abroad. My older brother is in the service and he has also given me lots of tips, hints and advice for sending food out. I've send him care packages as well as to my ex husband who had been stationed in Iraq.
There are so many ready to eat items at TJ's and it won't break the bank. Tons of canned goods like beans, chili, tomatoes, soups. There are also gourmet soups, rice milk, almond and soymilk, pear and applesauces, almond and peanut butters and more in sealed containers that are not glass and safe to ship overseas. TJ's also has a plethora of nuts, dried fruit, fruit bars, freeze dried fruit, trail mixes, pretzels, pits chips and the like. My brother always appreciated those shipments.
You can send cereals with some vanilla flavored almond milk (which is so yummy), and uncooked or cooked bags of rices (brown, wild, medley, jasmine). There are simmer sauces, Indian curried meal packets, Thai peanut sauce, Annie Chun's noodle bowls for cheap, tuna, olives, etc. There are plenty ready-to-eat, heat/vacuum sealed entrees that are shelf stable and have no preservatives to boot. Good luck.

Traitor Joe's, a Site by Greenpeace Against Trader Joe's Seafood

Ok, Greenpeace is full of shit. Seriously. I work at one of the busiest Trader Joe's in the Chicagoland area and almost all of the items on their list is nonexistent at the store and other area stores. Monkfish? What? Orange Roughy? Huh? Red Snapper?? Nooo. They employ gullible college-aged youth to do the occasional "survey" outside our store. What they're actually doing is stopping customers in the parking lot to "warn" them about our seafood products. Customers have ask me personally about items that "those Greenpeace dudes" have mentioned. I've showed them the fish section and they end up walking away laughing . They're laughing at the fact that we don't carry the items on the red list. Store management has been supplied with the "red list" so we're very aware of the bug up GP's bootyhole. The "Traitor Joe's" site is misleading in that it also lists shrimp and Atlantic salmon, items not listed on the actual "red list".
GP mails us shit and actually prank calls our store (and others) with automated messages and songs. It's like, seriously, do better homework and stop wasting everyone's time.
