A couple of places here in (Dallas neighboring) Fort Worth. Kincaid's - an old school grocery & grill that eventually gave up the grocery for just the grill. Just basic, flavorful burgers, fries, and onion rings with old school charm. Second, Fred's Texas - this place is awesome. Delicious burgers and fries - and a chef who dresses in apron and old school ten gallon hat and jeans tucked into his boots.

And while I have yet to try it, I am hearing good things about The Love Shack, our semi-famous chef about town Tim Love's new place in the stockyards.

I'll be reviewing these shortly over at www.kitchenrants.com

SCHOOP'S HAMBURGERS
If ever in Chicago head over to Northwest Indiana (15 min drive) or the south suburbs and try Schoop's Hamburgers. The burgers are 1/2 lb and are thin, crispy and hang over the bun. A very different burger really unique and delicious. My favorite is the Mickey and I wash it down with Green River soda. They are celebrating their 60th anniversary so they must me doing something right.

You must try the burgers at Nifty Fifty's in Philadelphia. Old fashioned had pattied and greasy goodness with wonderful fries.

Ooops... meant to say the Polo Lounge burgers are probably NOT great enough to justify the outrageous price.

My hubby and I are borderline obsessed with burgers. We've eaten them all over the world (even MadCow country) and consider ourselves highly qualified to be extremely picky.

I agree with Burger Joint in NYC -- excellent, especially for the price (in the context of NYC prices).

The Calif -based In-n-Out chain... great for fast food, but not a great burger in the grand scheme of things. I grew up on double-doubles (fortunately I didn't turn out double-double sized myself).

The burger at Houston's is awesome. Very well made, extremely consistent, just the right size, great toppings. We get a burger at our local Houston's at MINIMUM once a month. It's easily the best thing on their menu. If you've got one nearby, give it a try.

The most expensive burger I ever had was truly excellent -- one of the best anywhere -- but probably great enough to justify the price. It was at The Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel. I think they're running about $25 these days. 8-O But, for a splurge, give it a shot!

Finally, Nations Burger in the San Francisco Bay Area. Only a step above fast food, but yum...

Your's Truly is in Cleveland. They serve a quality breakfast all day. Consequently, while an egg is not explicitly listed as a burger topping, the kitchen is able and happy to accommodate.

Another local burger is Swenson's which R.W. Apple called the best cheeseburger in the country.

Rosamund Sausage Co in San Francisco does Hamburgers on Tuesdays. It's next to the Toranado Pub ( best beer selection in the city) & will even deliver your burger to your beer stool. The best burger i've had in years hands down & it's only 5 bucks.
