Are foodies Democrats or Republicans?
Hillary Democrat. My ideal ticket would have been Clinton with Obama as v.p. Democrats threw her under the bus...we desperately need that experience today. Will vote for Obama, but not happy about it.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving dish?
Slow roasted turkey with a rich, deep gravy, gratin potatoes in creamy herbed boursin and topped with browned and crusty parmesan (we also have whipped for the purists in the crowd) , homemade cranberry & applesauce and last, but not least, warm pumpkin bread pudding with caramel sauce and whipped cream.....
Hey, PinkCupcake - I love your reminisce - I'm a grandmother of 3 and I hope I'll have given my grandchildren those same kinds of loving memories 'helping' me prepare their favorites.
Best apple for pie?
II think, after over 40 years of making apple pies (that most folks tell me are 'the best ever'), that without a doubt, Rhode Island Greenings will blow anything else away. I've used Grannies, Cortlands, Macs, Northerns, etc. and nothing compares. If you don't live in the Northeast, there's a similar variety called Northwest Greenings. Haven't tried them, but I'm told they're similar. Retains shape, essence of apple taste, tart/sweet. Not so good as a fresh eating apple (little too tart). For that, we love Macouns and Honeycrisps. Good luck with your baking.

You're smart - something that doesn't consume you with last minute kitchen prep. Instead, visit with and enjoy your guests - that's what entertaining is really all about. How about something you can make the day before or earlier in the day then just reheat? This is a great time of year for chicken chili - everyone loves it . Serve with rice & salad and you're done. I agree with previous post - go for an apple crisp - (no crust - lower in calories than a pie, so then you can splurge on a scoop of ice cream). Also can be made ahead and warmed up. The best hostesses make it all look like it was no work at all - and guests are more comfortable than thinking you 'killed yourself' to make the meal. It usually takes decades to understand this, but you seem to know already.
