Taste Test: Peanut Butter, Creamy
I love Jif's low sodium, reduced sugar one. It's perfect with the reduced sugar jelly on Mrs. Baird's bread. YUM!
A Sandwich a Day: Cheesesteak at Pappa Geno's in Houston
Oh really? I'm on it!
A Sandwich a Day: Cheesesteak at Pappa Geno's in Houston
I've tried it and it was pretty good. I'm looking forward to trying other items on the menu. The fries, on the other hand, were forgettable.

Goodbye, Dumpling
My deepest, deepest sympathy to you and your lovely wife. Losing a pet is harder than most people realize until you lose your companion. I still haven't gotten over losing my awesome cat 2 1/2 years ago.
Big hugs to you both. Be a good boy, Dumpling.

Recap: Top Chef All-Stars, Episode 7, Restaurant Wars
This was a brilliant episode. Fabio or Dale should have won the challenge but eh. Marcel really needs to buy a clue because seriously? Hopefully he can pull a Tiffani and realize he's such an asshole and then fix it.
Best and Worst of Food Trends of 2010?
I agree with dbcurrie about those oxtails. They used to be so cheap because it's offal but now? Oh man.
I'm over the YOU MUST SHOP AND EAT LOCAL movement. I get it and I'm trying to be smarter (cause I'm a diabetic) but it's not so easy especially when it costs more and well, my meds are expensive too. What to choose?
I am loving the gluten-free, sugar-free, veggie movement. More please.
Leon's Favorite Chocolate Cake: The Chocolate Cake You Can Eat for Breakfast
AHAHAHA @ I'mJen's comment!!!
I knew I was an adult and my mom couldn't get on my when I ate ice cream for breakfast. Back to the cake, so gonna try this. YUM!
Recap: Top Chef DC Finale, Part 1
I like Angelo and while I'm almost certain he is going to lose, especially with that leak from Bravo about the next All Stars challenge, I just hope it's not Kevin. The way he went off on Alex during Restaurant Wars was so indicative of his attitude, along with Kenny's.
Also, it was bad for how the waitstaff was treated but honestly, there is 125K on the line. So, let's add another to the list-this is Top Chef not Top How I Treat the Waitstaff.
Recap: Top Chef DC, Episode 8
I want one of Tiffany's tamales. Yum.
And, I dunno, maybe watching Old School recently had me laughing so hard at the practical joke. ;)
Recap: The Next Food Network Star, Season 6, Episode 6
@janav-YES! Her hair was atrocious and it bothered me so much. Add her blah attitude and we're good.
Recap: Top Chef DC, Episode 2
Did Tom say the chicken looked like poop or something since the skin was removed?
Sam Kass is awesome.
Tasting Tour: Eating in Houston, Texas
Laredo Taqueria on Washington. Wake up too late and be prepared to wait in the line that snakes out the door. There are other locations, 2 more and all within a few blocks of one another, but the one on Washington has always held a special place in my heart.
How to Judge a Mexican Restaurant: The Chile Relleno Test
The chile relleno in the pic reminds me of the one made in the first episode of Top Chef Las Vegas. In the episode it was made using seitan. That photo is just plain awful.
How to Judge a Mexican Restaurant: The Chile Relleno Test
Sorry. I used to use the Ethnicity Test until I went to Pancho's, a horrible Mexican buffet, and noticed a lot of Mexicans in there. The food is crap, everyone knows this and to see them there just voided my rule.
So, for a Mexican restaurant, I use the carne guisada and flour tortilla test.
Lenten Sacrifices
Pasta! I'm 1/4 italian so this is going to be the hardest one for me yet. They will find my body on Easter Sunday either fabulously thin and near death or fat and bloated from the cheese I've been eaten and near death.
Lord help me.
Cook the Book: Ad Hoc at Home
Taqueria Laredo in Houston. I love this place and even though I no longer live in the area, I still travel from outside the city limits for those tacos. Breakfast tacos with eggs and bacon, ham, sausage, potato or chorizo. Even some barbacoa. Let's not forget those lunch ones that are made of fajita meat or a chicken leg. They sell for $1.50 and come on, this is a great deal. Oh Laredo...I miss you.
What do you eat as an adult?
My mom, being a Mexican, really made all of the stuff she cooked from scratch. However, being kids, we were fascinated by what the other kids ate. We threw a fit wanting to try those spaghetti-o's on the TV as well as Kid Cuisine. They were bad but she let us have them as snacks after school while dinner simmered on the stove. As we got older, and she started working more, thus going in earlier and making us latchkey kids, she'd make our dinner in the wee hours while we slept. The smell was intoxicating. I'm 33 and I can atest that I never had a Happy Meal. It was a treat to get those fries.
As an adult, I make my meals and rarely eat out. But when I do, I try and make it count. Being a diabetic, I have to choose sugar-free this and that and it can get pricey but pay now or pay later. So, I stay away from the sugary stuff, eat more protein, little carbs, lots of legumes, good milk, and treat myself to light ice cream. I want to be 40 and still have no effects of the diabetes.
Poll: What's Your Favorite Grocery Chain?
Central Market, or any HEB places! I'm from Houston and my BNC works for them so I have to represent. Besides, I get a 10% everytime I shop. It's a good their stuff is delicious. :)
A Spice Cake Tribute to Miep Gies, 1909–2010
Your tribute to Miep and her amazing spirit was beautiful and teared me up a bit.
Thank you.

Top Chef Season 6 Finale: And The Winner Is...
I thought too that Bryan was robbed after Kevin dropped the ball on his pork belly. But, reading Tom's blog entry, it made sense.

Cook the Book: 'The Pioneer Woman Cooks'
My favorite food blog? Not gonna lie, this one. It's everything. It ties up the other food blogs I read and opens my eyes to other food that I wouldn't have been able to stumble upon on my own.
Dinner Tonight: Skillet Macaroni and Cheese
I love that site. WOOHOO Jennifer Hess!!!
Gadgets: Pure Komachi 2 Knives
I found a pink Santoku knife at my Target for $6.19! Going back today to find the Chef's for the same price.
They are incredibly sharp that I already nicked my finger. Yea me!
