a Trader Joe's Disappointment

I agree that TJ's is a bonanza for someone who does not cook...their prepared foods are a bit healthier than most major brands if you read their ingredients.
I cook from scratch 95% of the time. I LOVE Trader Joe's for very specific things. Organic oatmeal, dried fruit, nuts, honey--all at amazing prices for my homemade granola. I love their cheeses...shredded cheddar; brie; and my absolute favorite: English Cheddar with caramelized onions.Yum.
My favorite cereal is Barbara's Puffins..and TJ sells it at half the price of my local grocery store.
Organic applesauce...cheap and delicious.
Dried lavender sachets...love em.
Bath/body products..great smell and cheap.
Jellies/jams...wonderful and yup, you guessed it: cheap.
Cookies..delicious + different..and I second the commenter above about the Peppermint Joe-Joe's!!!!!
Chocolate bars..to die for AND really cheap.
Soy sauce, condiments (esp their sundried tomatoes) are excellent. Mustards are good too.
It's just nice to buy stuff from a store that has DIFFERENT things for sale that our big box grocery stores have. As well as selling organic/natural foods for a reasonable price instead of ripping you off like the chains.
And my final favorite of TJ's? Mini pita breads :)

Caffeinated Complaint: Why Is Restaurant Coffee So Bad?

@seriousb:
I was also taken aback by the Costco comment; one of the main reasons I shop at Costco is because the quality of their produce is far superior to anywhere, and I mean anywhere else. Other than scooping something up at your local farmer's market, their isn't any fresher than Costco in our area.

Quiznos vs. Subway: Toasted Sub Showdown

As a Weight Watcher, I choose to go to Subway..not because they make superior sandwiches, but because I know EXACTLY what I am getting, which is very important for those of us counting "points" from the food we eat. Would I rather make a sub at home? Sure, but this is assuming you have to eat at a fast food. I think of Quiznos as a bit more gimmicky with their foods, and I would never have any of their sauces. For the commentators above who say these sandwiches aren't HEALTHY, I would say "compared to what?". A sandwich on whole grain, stuffed with veggies, minus the cheese, with turkey, and a fat free condiment is WAY healthier than the Big Mac or any offerings at Taco Bell. Plus it will fill me up lots more than anything else.

Turkey Burgers, what's your secret?

I should have said "the same fat content on BEEF burgers" above...

Turkey Burgers, what's your secret?

Ground turkey is our go to choice for burgers...I like that it is lean, and still juicy when grilled. The same fat content on Burgers (93%) would be very dry. I take 1 lb ground turkey, add a few generous splashes of soy sauce, finely chopped sundried tomatoes, 1/2 cup minced onion, 1/4 cup egg white, 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs, sea salt and pepper. If I have it, I also mix in FF feta cheese and about 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese.
Then (this is key) Place wax paper down on cookie sheet. Spray wax paper generously with olive oil (PAM) spray and place turkey patties down on this paper. Generously spray tops of turkey patties with olive oil spray. Place cookie sheet in freezer for at least one hour. Grill on high heat for 3-5 min, then medium until 75% done on one side. Flip.
Makes PERFECT burgers. They never crumble.

Gadgets: One-Touch Tea Maker by Breville

I have to second (or third) the IngenuiTEA (check it out here:http://www.adagio.com/teaware/ingenuiTEA_teapot.html?SID=6260fa5a279cb1718623a6217d5d55ad
from Adagio Teas. I also have an electric teakettle (Stainless Steel Hamilton Beach--$20 from Costco) that heats water super fast. Put loose tea in the IngenuiTEA....add boiling (or very hot..the teas from Adagio have a brewing guide on the package)..let it steep for about 5 min (or 7 for some teas..they tell you that, too, on the package) and you get a really awesome cup of tea. And a fun delivery..you'll see!

Really fast scrambled eggs. Mix eggs or a combo of egg and egg beaters with one (or 2) Laughing Cow cheese wedges (the soft kind) and salt and pepper. Put in mug you have sprayed well with no-stick spray. Microwave for 1 minute on high; stir and microwave in 20-30 sec increments until almost done. Let sit for 1-2 min....delish and very quick.

Video: Brooklyn's Backyard Chicken Keepers

Two thoughts...one...I want to raise chickens after this video! Not only are they cute (oh yeah) but i love the idea of knowing what they are fed, and what kind of daily care these chickens are getting before you eat their eggs. We have farmers around us who raise chickens, and sell their eggs, but they do not feed them organic feed.
Secondly, I don't think I could swallow a morsel of one of my former pets if it was on my dinner plate. That said, I would not have a problem giving it to someone ELSE to eat :)

Taste Test: Cheap But Good Olive Oils

I would definitely make a bunch of different kinds of salad dressing, marinade, and dipping oils. Another idea...I went to a party recently where they had olive oil tastings...but hid the brand until we all voted on our favorite. Ironically, the drugstore brand won...lol. It might be fun to try that with your friends.
