Cook the Book: 'Tacos'

I seriously need to eat somewhere besides fast food, because most of my taco memories take place in Taco Bell. :) I guess the most memorable experience would be when my husband showed me how to fry a soft flour taco - yum!

Cook the Book: 'Giada's Kitchen'

I like a spaghetti sauce the way my mom made it: tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes, italian spices, hamburger and mushrooms.

Cook the Book: 'The Modern Baker'

One of my biggest baking successes was a tigger shaped cake that I decorated all by myself using a star tip from the grocery store. It was the only cake I've ever decorated like that.

Cook the Book: 'A Platter of Figs'

Sweet pie pumpkins are my favorite. I usually grow my own. When they are ripe I pick them, quarter and clean them, brush with oil, roast in the oven, and then puree in the blender with whatever liquid is part of the recipe. So if I was making pie I would blend the pumpkin with evaporated milk.

'Waiter Rant': The Giveaway

Two weeks ago we took our little kids to a very nice Italian restaurant for dinner. We usually hire a babysitter, but this was a spur of the moment thing. Our waitress was especially kind and helpful considering that the restaurant was not geared for kids and had no kids menu.

She was full of kindness, and put us at ease about having the kids eat there. She was willing to bend over backward to find or even change something on the menu so that my kids were happy. (We ended up having the boys split an entree.) She waited on us hand and foot, and of course we gave her a large tip for the excellent service.

Cook the Book: 'Chocolate Epiphany'

The thought of this is painful! I would have to choose the melted chocolate brownie/cake that I had at an Italian restaurant last weekend. I don't know what it was called, but it was spectacular! It had a brownie texture, was soft and melting in the middle and had a chocolate sauce over the top.
