Eating along I-87 -- Adirondacks
There is a place called Sutton’s on Route 9 just south of the main strip in Glens Falls. Haven’t been there in years but remember having a pretty good sandwich there.
If you can hold out…head further north than you mentioned and take a detour on Route 73 into Keane…not sure I remember how far of a detour…. but worth it to find the Noon Mark Diner. Go ahead and have some lunch…that’s fine, but then plan to spend some time eating pie. EAT LOTS OF PIE!!!
Like me, you’ll probably end up leaving with 2-3 full pies to go (mixed berry was my favorite).
What would be your last beer?
Switchback
...a Northern Vermont micro. only available on tap.....Mmmm!!
The Joys of Unnaturally Flavored Sodas
Polar Diet Orange Dry.

Best Eats in Charleston, SC?
I'm sure there are less touristy places, but we loved Jestine's Kitchen when we were there 3 years ago. All our food was great including the fried green tomatoes and fish n' grits... but if you go, make sure someone at the table orders the fried chicken..my kids still talk about it and they only ate the leftovers I brought home.

I have actually eaten NorthernBBQ's Atomic Buffalo Turds....cautious at first..then ate about 7....too good!!!!!
Foods that make you go hurl
Got sick after eating french onion soup...haven't had another crock in over 25 years.
Also have not had tequilla since my bachelor party...but we won't go into that!
Who has a good online site to order coffee?
I order Keurig cups from coffeeforless.com all the time and have never had a problem.
What Totally Embarassing Food Products Do You Love?
Blueberry Frosted Pop Tarts (have to be frosted!!), Elios Frozen Pizza, Bugles, Manwich (on soft sandwich buns)
but...far and away #1 is..
Funyons!
No Knead bread call to arms.
I made the NYT bread twice this past weekend and I agree..the crust is great (I used cornmeal) and the inside tender. My only problem is how sticky the dough was while I worked with it. I worked on a Silpat with flour and still was struglgling to fold and form into a "ball". I was afraid of over-flouring in fear of a tougher bread. Am I doing something wrong or is this just the way it is?
If you had to pick just one...
1. Cheese

3. Beer
4. Waffles

8. Not DC
9. Sweetened
10. Peas
11. Pudding
12. Ketchup
13. Eggs - Fried
14. Chowder - white
15. white meat
New York Pizza - which one?
Bleecker Street Pizza - on the corner of Bleecker and 7th Ave. Try the Nonna Maria slice.
Cook the Book: 'Southern Belly'
I second Jestine's Kitchen in Charleston SC...go for the fried chicken, fish & grits, sweet tea and corn bread with butter & honey....and definitely stay for the lemon pie!
What's Your Favorite Local Cheese?
Jonathan and Nina White make amazing cheeses at Bobolink Dairy up in Vernon, NJ. (I believe they also attend the Union Sq. Greenmarket on Fridays). The cage aged cheddar is outstanding and the one they call Frolic might be the best cheese I've ever eaten!!
Favorite Brand and Flavor of Potato Chips?
Pop into Trader Joe's and pick up a bag of their blue chips. You'll be licking your fingers and stabbing at the bottom of the bag until every last crumb is gone!
Best Eats in Charleston, SC?
Cru cafe is great for lunch... have not been for dinner. Tratorria Lucca is excellent for Italian. They do a family style prix fixe dinner on Sunday nights, so depending on your mood you might want to try it or avoid it (it's a set menu). SNOB was good, but not as good as what I expected from all the hype, although the setting was very nice. Definitely check out the rooftop bar at the Market Pavillion Hotel. It's awesome.
Best Eats in Charleston, SC?
hominy grill is good casual. a little more upscale but not completely breaking the bank go to High Cotton!! Can't recommend this rest. enough.
Best Eats in Charleston, SC?
Had a great dinner in May at Cru Cafe; lovely porch and terrific menu. Lunch at SNOB was good, albeit crowded. A rooftop drink at the Vendue Inn is nice before dinner.
Best Eats in Charleston, SC?
I'm from S.C. and take my wife on special occasions to F.I.G. ( Food Is Good ) The Charleston Grill (featured on PBS), Hanks (great upscale seafood near the Market) and The Peninsula Grill for dinner. For a great inexpensive lunch try Fast & French on Broad St. or Crew Cafe on Pinkney St. SNOB is okay but not in the same league as some I've mentioned. Jestines is just another soul food restaurant. Bowens Island is great when local oysters are in season. I too like the Hominy Grill.
For a great meal on HHI get reservations at the Ole Fort Pub and dine outside while the sun sets on Shull Creek. Trust me and order the chicken dish whatever it is. I can't wait to go back!
If you have the time eat a weekday lunch at Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House in Savannah. It's great and so is Paula Dean's. I can't decide which I like best. Southern cuisine at it's best!
Best Eats in Charleston, SC?
@Carey Jones - forgot to mention, type in Charleston, S.C., in the search area on the top right hand side of the red bar - there are older posts concerning your query. Also, if you are in Savannah, just a short trip from Hilton Head, you must try, "Mrs.Wilkes Boarding House" for lunch - ask at the Information center, or, Google it - it is so famous it is just word of mouth - a wonderful experience and well worth the effort.
Best Eats in Charleston, SC?
SNOB, (Slightly North of Broad) is middle of the road in price, but high end in value and food excellence - I love it.
Hominy Grill is another great place, especially for Sunday brunch.
I know Nathan's is considered "touristy & not real" by the locals, but I have enjoyed every single meal we have eaten there - the wait looks endless but actually moves along at a fair clip.
I always enjoy the little places out on Folly Beach for shrimp boil, oysters and fried food, and for a real experience of local cuisine, try Bowen's Island - fresh, delicious seafood, in an old run down shack (when I was there in July, I noticed a big, beautiful restaurant being built, so soon that authentic charm will be gone.
Enjoy your trip - it is probably my favourite place in North America.
Eating along I-87 -- Adirondacks
dear serious eaters: we stopped in Schroon Lake (exits 26-28)and had delicious crepes at Morningside Bistro. Voila! Thank you for all the suggestions.
Eating along I-87 -- Adirondacks
Jean Talon market is unreal. So wonderful. We went for the first time at the beginning of the month. We had to go back the next day for a repeat visit.
Eating along I-87 -- Adirondacks
You can give Warrensburg a try, I believe it's exit 23 if memory serves and I seem to remember some pretty decent places around there, Grist Mill on the Schroon River is supposed to be pretty good, and it's barely out of your way. In fact you could take 9 from the Burg to Schroon Lake once you get off 87 and the driving through that area, off the highway, is absolutely amazing.
Saratoga is an option but is about an hour's drive south of Lake George, try the places on Broadway, I remember Wheatfields being good, and if you're in the mood for something lighter there's a lunch crepe cafe up there called Ravenous
Eating along I-87 -- Adirondacks
Schroon Lake is beautiful. And I second the Algonquin- if you stay away from Lake George Village and head to Bolton Landing it's much less touristy. The Lakeside, Algonquin of course, and one italian place close to both of those that I forget the name of.. OH if you want breakfast burritos- and who doesn't?- head to the Water's Edge in Bolton Landing- extremely casual like take out (most people drive up in their boats), you sit on top of a boathouse overlooking of a beautiful calm part of the lake. They have sandwiches and stuff too but haven't tried those. Sooooo pretty up there...

@ lexophile
Bistro Boris, Lemeac, Olive et Gourmando, and perhaps Byblos. And La Maison du Macaron! Not very extra-ordinary.
But we are staying at a loft with a fully equipped kitchen. What I really want to do is go to the markets Atwater and Jean-Talon.
Eating along I-87 -- Adirondacks
I'm curious what places you've picked in Montreal. We try to go 2 to 3 times a year and always end up at the same places.
Eating along I-87 -- Adirondacks
thank you everyone. Given the meager choices after Lake George (before Lake George it will be a little too early to stop) I think I might take Route 7 in VT to I89. Or pack that picnic basket (@pooch)! I called the CC at Schroon Lake and they gave me directions to picnic tables close to the lake!
@lexophile: yes. All planned, thanks!
