Great Cheeseburgers at La Grande Orange in Santa Monica, California

At the top of the article, there is a picture of Le Grande Orange's entrance, what's in the picture to the right of it?

The original Hamburger Fatty Melt had no bacon on it. It was the second invention of the Bacon Hamburger Fatty Melt that had, well, bacon on it. That's why there is no bacon.

Yawn--I was there last night--the burger was bland--no seasoning on the patty and no crust from the griddle. The fries were soggy. On a positive note: the bun was fantastic. Sadly, 12 bucks is lot of dough for a nice bun.

@CHIP P - What a bummer! So sorry the Pasadena LGO didn't measure up to my Santa Monica experience. I've been to SM location 3 times now - burgers each time and have yet to be let down.

Don't be fooled into thinking you're gonna get a good burger at the Pasadena LGO location. Quite the opposite. Based on this review and photo I tried the cheeseburger in Pasadena this weekend. Soggy bun (top and bottom were smooshed down to about 1/4 " each because they were moist and couldn't hold up) and tasteless meat. Inedible taste wise and inedible in trying to eat a burger as you should- with at least 1 hand. What a mess. 1/2 thru trying to eat I gave up, my napkin looked like a 6 month's old bib after 8 courses of Gerber's.
"LGO Hospitality founder Bob Lynn. Lynn spent twenty-five years building the Houston's brand" - interesting. There's a Houston's 1/2 block away from the Pasadena LGO and it's VERY busy while the LGO resto is not at all busy (based on 3 visits and others' observations). There's a good reason for that and it's not the terrific interior.

just took my lady for a golden state burger (delicious, bun just the right size to eat all of it-i'm talking to you, 25 degrees) and your thoughts on the no waiter service for $15-20 lunches did come to my mind.. the last time i went to GS, (again, delicious) i instinctively added 20% to the credit card slip and had immediate and lasting regret for supporting such a world of mind games. But this time i looked at the tip jar, looked back at the owner, and i know he felt, the " come on dude"......

I've been avoiding LGO Pasadena due to the sheer hype and uneasy access. Definitely NOT going to LGO SM as an LEYE enterprise, but perhaps it's time to check it out and compare it against 6 other heavy hitting Hollywood burgers

I would ordinarily skip cheese all together, particularly the unmelted variety--but not this time!!! The burger apparently tastes as good as it looks and more. Thanks for the review, Damon.

LGO's burgers are delcious - at least at the original location in Pasadena. I love both the chile burger and the veggie burger. Their deviled egg appetizer is always a good choice too.

I just read "lagrandeorangesm.com" as "lagrandeorgasm.com" and was like, wow, that better be a damn good burger if it's calling itself that. Then I realized that I can't read. Chile burger looks pretty good though...I'd have to taste it to see if it inspired a "When Harry Met Sally" scene though.

I thought the highlight of LGO was the housemade english muffins, which barely offset the consistently bitter espresso. Also, upon reading the review for Pizzeria Bianco on here, I decided to try it last time I was in the valley for work. Unfortunately for me, there was a 2 and a half hour wait (outside in 100+ degree heat no less). Maybe I'll have better luck next time, but there is no food good enough to wait that long for in such discomfort for.

@EazyB: I didn't say anything about people not eating like this already. When you've had to lift and transport someone that is over 600 pounds and needs a special ambulance or hold up the fat flap of someone with a BMI of 50+ for 2-3 hours for their surgery (that was necessitated by their obesity), then feel free to call me a retard for not understanding that people eat badly already without free health care. My comment's wording was in response to gaffer's wording of "If you really get free health care from Obama you can fearlessly eat this stuff ". You know...the very thing you criticized me for saying. Additionally, I'll admit probably no one has wanted a heart attack so bad but was prevented from "getting one" due to lack of health insurance. However, making an extreme statement like that as an argument is at best marginally helpful to your side. Especially when there are plenty of people who think that modern medicine is so amazing that they can do things (like eating badly) even knowing the consequences (like heart attacks) and that some doctor will fix it. I know this because I've had patients freely admit it to me. At least some of these people would be deterred from eating as badly if they didn't have coverage since it eliminates the "some doctor will fix it" part of their line of reasoning.

@spiderman0521: There's a big difference between free health care and universal health care coverage. Universal health care coverage can be very good if implemented correctly. Giving away something desirable (like health care) for free generally creates demand from people that wouldn't have actually needed it, using up at least part of the supply for people who do need it. Don't assume that I think the US health care system is not broken just because I said that free health care is not a good idea.

@Rdour: I apologize for the derailing. I just think the "bypass surgery after eating something fatty" jokes are incredibly played out. So...

For the sake of at least marginally being on topic, I would probably eat that. Yes. I'd be one of those people who "eat like that already"...at least occasionally. Heart attacks be damned if the alternative is exclusively eating rabbit food for life. It can't be that much worse than a regular Big Mac. The cheese is just moved into the bread...and the bread is fried up somewhat. For the sake of not being misinterpreted, this is not to say that a regular Big Mac is healthy eating and being a little worse than it is also pretty healthy eating. But having indulgences in moderation is acceptable to me.

@gaffer:
Anybody who regularly eats this kind of stuff will be unlikely to live long enough to get a free triple bypass, so I say, go for it dudes. You won't be clogging up the health care system for long.

I've never been big on burgers with rare meat. I love rare steak, but a burger? I don't want to see any pink at all... that's just me.

@wunami - Guy was making a joke. Congrats on the conversation derail...

@gaffer, @wunami
If you'd like to criticize universal health care, please take into account it's effectiveness compared to the US system. Judged against that of other industrialized countries, all of whom have universal coverage, analysis from the WHO and the Commonwealth Fund has shown US overall health, life expectancy, mortality, and infant mortality to all be inferior. In addition, the US has 45 million uninsured and another 16 million under-insured. That is incredibly ridiculous.

And on topic, that looks delicious. One bite would be memorable enough to last a lifetime. Ok, maybe two bites.

Without getting into the politics and the policy, I'd just like to gently suggest that depreciatory name-calling -- "retard" -- may not really advance the position you are trying to advocate.

IIRC, it is also a violation of your terms of service for this blog.

In short, take it easy, EazyB!

Ummm, people already do go wild and eat anything they want, free healthcare or not. You did read this post, right retard? Nobody says to themselves "Man I want a heart attack so bad, but I don't have any healthcare!".
