Fast food regional items - do you try?

Some McD's in Texas serve biscuits and gravy on the breakfast menu. The Wendy's here serves breakfast and has started making fried chicken. And when we lived in St. Croix, a pizza on the Domino's menu was the "Extravaganza", which was just a Supreme, but I liked the name so much better, haha! When traveling, I eat at real restaurants, but there is usually a fast food stop along the way. When I see a regional item, I always give it a try. Anybody else? Any surprising discoveries? (as surprising as fast food can get :)

Your favorite place to dine in San Francisco

I'm heading down to San Francisco in a couple weeks for work and was wondering if folks had any recommendations for their favorite places to eat down there. I haven't been there in a couple of years but I already have reservations at Chez Panisse, and I'm thinking about Jardiniere and Zuni Cafe. Any others people would suggest?

Where is the best place to get BBQ in Dallas/Forth Worth?

I'm going up to the Forth Worth/Dallas area in May and I would like to get some good BBQ. My idea of good BBQ is Kreuz Market in Lockhart so I'm hoping to find something similar. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

What Would YOU Do?

Recently 10 of us went out to an upscale restaurant to celebrate my birthday. One of my friends informed the manager that he would like to have a slice of cake with a candle on it presented to me for desert. You know, the whole embarassing "Happy Birthday" to do. When the slice of cake came (which was supposed to have been complimentary) it was inedible. I later found out that it was something the chef had "experimented with" which he had no intention of serving. (A horrible cinnamon & chocolate concoction). When the bill arrived we had been charged $9.00 for the slice of cake. I asked our server about it and he said it was their practice to charge for the dessert in situations like this. Fine. However I mentioned to the manager that if we were going to pay for the cake I should have had a choice of what I wanted. The manager looked straight at me and said, "You're just trying to get something for free!" I was so taken aback that I paid the check myself and swore never to return. I don't have any recourse....do I?

Earth Hour 2008

Restaurants, bars, cafes and hotels all supported Earth Hour and helped make Saturday night so special.

Let's keep the momentum going - the unified support for Earth Hour shown by the hospitality industry indicates what can be achieved from working together - it'll be exciting to see the long term plans businesses make to become more sustainable.

2 million Victorians switched off for Earth Hour and Melbourne achieved a 10.1% drop in energy for the hour. Over 120 restaurants and bars participated and nearly all the major hotels.

Have a look at this link to see what happened in Melbourne and
around the world...

What's the deal with 2nd Avenue Deli?

Arthur Schwartz (the Food Maven.com) has just lambasted the 2nd Ave. Deli and indicates that a great many of his fellow food critics feel the same way even though they've publicly glorified the reopened deli.

1. How do you really feel about the quality of food and service at the 2nd Ave Deli and...

2. How do you REALLY feel about food critics who publish one opinion but express the opposite privately?
