Sushi Yasuda in NYC has officially banned tipping at their restaurant! The owner says the waiters are now salaried with paid leave and sick time. Some patrons have still tried to leave a tip although they won't accept it.
However the food cost has gone up slightly to be able to afford this for the workers. However the response according to the workers has been quite favorable when patrons see their bill and are surprised to see their is no longer room for a tip on the bill.
What do you guys think about this practice? Would you rather have lower food costs and the tipping or no tipping with higher food costs? I'm personally for it...I think it places the responsibility rightfully on the owners to make sure their staff is paid and satisfied. A restaurant shouldn't rely on tips to pay for its waitstaff.
