City Tavern's Chef Walter Staib, Regis Philbin & Chef Tell?

What do these three men have in common? They all loved Chef Tell.

Chef Tell was one of Philly's leading figures in the Great Philadelphia Food Renaissance of the 1970s. Chef Tell fans will love the anecdotes that reveal how the man on TV behind the mustache, the apron and the famous sign off, "I SEE YOU!" overcame severe hardships and obstacles, some self-made, to be there. How he made his childhood dreams come true and achieved his lifelong goal of his own, syndicated television show, In the Kitchen with Chef Tell, is nothing short of a timeless tale of grit and persistence -- a testimony to the human spirit... and the love of a good woman.

Elaine Tait, writing for The Philadelphia Inquirer, wrote, "Chef Tell is America's first TV showman chef, and the only one whose food tastes good."

People remember Tell, always with a smile, when his name is brought up. After all, he admonished them to "play with your food. I take the fear out of cooking."

People who knew Tell either loved or hated "the affable, roguish playboy chef of Philadelphia," (as Jim Quinn once wrote in Philadelphia Magazine) yet they can never forget his irascible personality.

Tell loved Philadelphia and its history. He often contributed to Philabundance and other local non-profits. Sales of his biography will continue the tradition.
