What's wrong with Los Angeles burgers these days?

As of this writing, the last five reviews for burgers in LA were negative.

Is this because they all seem to be "chef burgers" and chefs down here can't just make a good burger and be done with it?
It seems that a lot of the reviews for "stand" burgers are much more positive. My own experience has certainly backed this up.

So, what's the deal with the LA burger scene? Is it a house divided? Can the chef burger redeem itself or should we all just meet down at Capitol Burger and to hell with the fancy pants?
