Weekend Cook and Tell: Love For Legumes

Welcome to our Weekend Cook and Tell where each Wednesday we turn the pages of the food sections of various national newspapers in search of inspiration for a weekend cooking project. We hope you'll cook along with us and share your experiences, recipes, and photos here.

What vegetarian [insert descriptive noun] can I make for [insert person or purpose]? Our Talk threads regularly see action on questions that fall somewhere along these lines. Melissa Clark, of The New York Times, was asked a very similar question by a friend: "What budget-conscious, vegetarian dinner party dish can you think of that's as impressive as beef Bourgignon, can be made entirely in advance, doesn't involve tofu and will be satisfying enough for meat eaters?" This question led to this answer: a big pot of beans stewed in red wine.

Legumes are versatile, comforting, and a fan favorite. Beans, peas, peanuts, soybeans, and the legume list continues. Just last week, Baby Zog demolished an entire bowl of Turkey Barbecue Beans. There's no denying a global love of legumes. When you need a hearty meal, what legume dish do you turn to?

Share your favorite legume recipes on Photograzing (make sure to include "Weekend Cook and Tell" in your submission title) and tell us about your recipes here! If you'd like to blog the experience, please leave a link in the comments below. You can now also pin your creation on your Pinterest board as well. Please use the hashtag, #cookandtell, and tag us, @Serious Eats in your pin's text.

We'll post a round-up of your ideas, recipes, and experiences the following Wednesday, February 27th.
