Welcome to our Weekend Cook and Tell where each Wednesday we turn the pages of the food sections of various national newspapers in search of inspiration for a weekend cooking project. We hope you'll cook along with us and share your experiences, recipes, and photos here.
My husband and I visited New York over the holidays and besides a few extra pounds from our food itinerary, we also brought the flu back. And I was the host (hostess?). The flu epidemic has hit hard this year. If you check out the CDC's map, you'll see the only areas less impacted are islands, Tennessee, and the D.C. (random, right?). Does this mean we should all migrate to Guam? Probably not. Although, on second thought, it sounds warmer than where I am right now.
This week, we're simply going to focus on our favorite food-based home remedies, foods that speed your recovery and/or just make you feel better. So pull on some pj's, wrap up in a robe, and slip on your slippers. We're having a flu-fest. Do you rely on chicken noodle soup? Anything citrus or with zinc? Or congee? We want your best recipes to help our sick eaters feel better - and even prevent the rest from getting sick.
