Welcome to our Weekend Cook and Tell where each Wednesday we turn the pages of the food sections of various national newspapers in search of inspiration for a weekend cooking project. We hope you'll cook along with us and share your experiences, recipes, and photos here.
It's that magical time of year again. You know, the time when we ponder long and hard what to gift our friends, family, and office-mates. Here in the SE office, we do a cookie swap. It's a great way to give a gift that demonstrates care, your personal taste, and make a belly happy. When it comes to food gifting, I personally think of the many fruit cakes that have come my way (my aunt possessed a deep love for fruitcake).
Jame Touzalin, of The Washington Post, speaks to the ridicule the faithful fruitcake has endured. For many, the fruitcake is destined for the trash or as a temporary brick/doorstop. You can even watch video of it being destroyed. Touzalin then goes on to propose "7 ways to fix fruitcake's image problem." The result is a gift-giving miracle. A fruitcake for all to be excited about receiving.
