Buying Wine In Paris Not Seen in U.S.

I am a consistent wine drinker in that I buy what I haven't seen in the store before.

I have certainly bought most of the wines exported and sold through distribution to retailers in Southern California. For those not in Southern California, most of it is widely distributed in most urban areas in the U.S.

Now, I am in Paris having made many careful plans, but no plan on what wines to sample while I am here! A local wine merchant sold us a *stellar* Sauvingnon (not the same as "sauvingon blanc") that we would never get in the U.S. for about USD $15.

To give you an example, there's no shortage of Chateauneuf De Pape in the shops here. I know them well enough, so it's not a high sampling priority.

Any suggestions welcome. We are in Monmartre where the wine shops are numerous.
