Welcome to our Weekend Cook and Tell where each Wednesday we leisurely leaf through the food sections of various national newspapers in search of inspiration for a weekend cooking project. We hope you'll cook along with us and share your experiences, recipes, and photos here.
This week the L.A. Times has rounded up a list of 50 places to eat for $5 or less in Southern California which, considering the general priciness of eating out is quite the undertaking. It's a great list, worth checking out for plenty of steamy bowls of soup, tasty tacos, and upscale happy hour eats.
All this talk about eating for under five bucks got us thinking about not only eating on the cheap but also cooking. This week we're challenging you to make a meal for $5 or under. We're looking for your best, cheapest recipes, the ones that highlight not only your skill in the kitchen but also in the world of responsible spending. There are loads of options for thrifty dining that don't involve packages of ramen, although we're certainly not opposed. Cheap and creative are the operative words for this week's challenge.
Show us photos of your bargain basement creations on Photograzing (make sure to include "Cook and Tell" in your submission title) and tell us about your recipes here! If you'd like to blog the experience, please leave a link in the comments below. We'll post a round-up of your thriftiest ideas, recipes, and experiences next Wednesday.
