Juniper Berries

I got a bag of them as a gift (they smell awesome) but don't have much experience using them. I know they pair well with veal or lamb but I'm looking for other ideas. And should I treat them like I would any spice/seed; toast lightly in a dry pan and crush/grind?
Recipes or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
