Serious Eats: Talk
Coolio gave me a stomach ache
Has anyone been watching the TV show Rachel Vs. Guy? The last two people on Guy's side is some member of a boy band and Coolio.. yeah, the ghetto rapper.
For his meal last Sunday he makes "Fork Steak" and "Ghetalian Bread" (I think that's what he called it). Ghetto Italian Bread.
I don't know what made me think listening to him was a good idea.
The first thing you will notice is that the recipe sounds disgusting and making it looks disgusting. Read the ingredients.
Here's a picture of what it looks like (not my picture):

Not bad looking. As for taste it can't be that bad I figured. My Aunt made this recipe, which is a dip, but similar ingredients:

That was actually pretty tasty and got good reviews, but crap I forgot about all that mayo giving me an upset stomach.
Coolio's recipe was very salty.. I had used garlic paste, which has other things in it, salt being one of them. Even if I had used fresh garlic like the recipe calls for, I think I'd still find it too salty. Maybe unsalted butter would be a bit better?
The amount of mayo in it was WAY too much.
The amount of stuff this recipe makes is too much. I have FOUR loaves of french bread 'cause they were only $1.99 and even if I used them all I'd still have a lot of the topping left over.
So, here I sit.. 11:37pm.. I ate many hours ago, already visited the bathroom, but my stomach is upset. :(
The bread was tasty indeed, but if I make it again it will be with a lot less mayo and probably less butter as well. I also probably wouldn't eat as much.
I can't blame Coolio entirely. His Mom taught him the recipe and the judges liked it.
