Holiday Entertaining- Is this Appropriate?
Lots of people are having holiday parties right now, welcoming friends, family and guests for a good time. While it is customary to bring a bottle of wine or a small gift to thank the hostess, I would like to know where the line is drawn.
I was recently invited to my girlfriend's co-worker's gathering this weekend and was told that everyone must bring their OWN bottle of liquor or wine to drink AND a dish!! I must say, I was bit appalled. What are you having folks over for if we're bringing everything??? Unless this was a stated potluck, this seems unreasonable to me.
If I bring the above, would I still need to bring something for the hostess? What is the proper etiquette and is this a reasonable request for guests?
