Lots O' Kale

I have been gifted 2.5 lbs of organic kale. I have never prepared it before. I found great recipe's here, but my question is... Can it be used as a substitute for collard greens, or is it more delicate (not cooked as long) as my southern grandmother's collard and salt pork / ham hock way of prep. ? Thanks Y'all !!
