Homemade Ketchup: Worth the Effort?

A friend of ours used to make her own crackers. Other than therapeutic reasons-maybe it helped work out some issues-I can't see the point. Same goes for ketchup. Given the popularity of from-scratch ketchup, this may be sacrilegious, but I've yet to come across a ketchup that even approaches Heinz.

Thoughts? Also, what other foods (like crackers) do you think represent kitchen overkill?
