Weekend Cook and Tell: Experimenting with Indian
Welcome to Weekend Cook and Tell. Every Wednesday we poke around the food sections of various national newspapers in search of inspiration for a weekend cooking project. We hope you'll cook along with us and share your experiences, recipes, and photos here.
This week Elisa Ludwig of The Philadelphia Inquirer tackled a cuisine that ranks high on the culinary intimidation scale—Indian. In Indian Food: No Fear, Ludwig talks to the proprietor of an Indian cooking school in an effort to demystify a cuisine that most folks only enjoy in takeout and restaurant form. With it's balanced and good-for-you vegetable-heavy meals, an interest in cooking Indian at home has risen dramatically in the past few years, with quite a few cookbooks coming out. Really just a matter of stocking your pantry with spices and a few dry goods, and learning a few new techniques, Indian cuisine at home is much simpler than many cooks realize.
For this week's challenge we want to hear about your adventures in Indian cooking. Whether you're an avid dal enthusiast or an occasional dabbler in the all-you-can-scarf Indian lunch buffet department, this week is your chance to share your favorite Indian recipes. If you're looking for recipe inspiration we've got plenty to go around with curries and kormas galore. Another great resource is Madhur Jaffrey's site for wonderful recipes and info from the woman who arguably brought Indian cooking to the west.
