Goat meat/pork

My family tried goat meat for the first time this week. It was...very educational. We learned not to try to barbecue old goat (cue jokes here...), but that a slow cooker does wonderful things to it. When we ate the slow cooked meat, it reminded both my husband and myself of similarly cooked pork. My son is allergic to pork, so we were a little excited about the possibility of having a suitable substitute.
Does anybody know anything about this? Would you think that would be ok? I was a vegetarian for most of my life, so all this meat-cooking is pretty new for me. I don't think the flavor was even very close to pork, but it is different, and nice to have something besides beef.
The reason I'm asking is the Yucatan Pork recipe just posted today. It looks good, and I'd sure like to try it out on our goat meat.
Unless somebody has a heart attack and just screams "DON'T DO IT!!!" I'm probably gonna give it a try, just because. I just want others' opinions on the whole substitute idea.
