Food Media and News

Food Media, Help or Hurt (your wallet)?

Not to start another Yelp topic, I'm not a Yelp-er, but I do post restaurant reviews on a local forum and also talk on Chowhound forums. I am honest in my reviews, and post only after at least two visits, unless it it so terrible on the first visit, that there's no reason to go back..

What I've found here in Houston, is that the restaurants that get the most press, are often the worst choices. Especially for high end restaurants. Advertising dollars?

I get so annoyed when I follow the press to a "great new place" and find it lacking in the most fundamental ways, service, food, food, food. And paying top dollar. Won't mention my recent encounter with mediocrity here, but, am I alone here? Down with food media!!
