Macarons - Am I too late? Have they jumped the shark?

I finally got the chance to try my hand at macarons this weekend for V-day (pink with chocolate filling), and they turned out not too shabby if I do say so myself. I used bakerella's recipe and even drew on little hearts as she suggested ( Everyone at work loved them and was very impressed.

So what's the problem you ask? I feel like the macaron trend is so 2010 and I missed the boat? I even found myself being apologetic about it at work. Am I crazy??? Does anyone else ever feel like they're always behind food trends? Please tell me I'm crazy.
