Weekend Cook and Tell: Holiday Tipples

Welcome to Weekend Cook and Tell. Every Wednesday we leaf through the food sections of various national newspapers to come up with an idea for a weekend cooking project. We hope you'll cook along with us and share your experiences, recipes, and photos here.

This week over on Frank Bruni's The Tipsy Diaries he talked about his love-hate relationship with eggnog, which, when you think about it, is pretty valid. Rich, creamy, and cloyingly sweet, Bruni argues that even a small cup of nog is enough to fill you up within the first five minutes of any given holiday party. But even though Bruni isn't wild about the not so healthful aspects of this classic holiday concoction, there's something about the nostalgia and tradition of it that keeps him from swearing it off completely.

In an effort to rethink Christmastime drinks, Bruni enlisted the help of several seasoned mixologists around Manhattan to create drinks that felt modern while still retaining their festive feel.

This week's Weekend Cook and Tell is all about the warm, possibly boozy cupfuls that only seem appropriate between Thanksgiving and New Years. We want to hear all about your favorite holiday tipples, whether it's a secret punch recipe, mugs of warm mulled wine, spiced and spiked cider, or even a particularly decadent eggnog. If you've been wondering what to do with the bottle of crème de menthe that's been sitting on your shelf for ages, this is your chance to play holiday mixologist, just don't forget that candy cane garnish.

Show us photos of your festive cocktails and punches Photograzing (make sure to include "Cook and Tell" in your submission title), and tell us about your recipes here! If you'd like to blog the experience, please leave a link in the comments below. We'll post a round-up of your tipsiest ideas, recipes, and experiences next Wednesday.
