Weekend Cook and Tell: New Year's Eve Tastes and Toasts
Welcome to Weekend Cook and Tell. Every Wednesday we assemble the food sections of various national newspapers and rifle through them to come up with an idea for a weekend cooking project. We hope you'll bake along with us and share your experiences, recipes, and photos here.
No matter where you are going to be this weekend, we're pretty sure that there's going to be some serious eating and drinking going on to help ring in the new year. Newspaper food sections are full of ideas for festive and elegant bites and sips. The New York Times rounded up affordable French sparklers from outside of the Champagne region and shared a recipe for a decadent pre-resolution quiche. The Houston Chronicle has a list of Martha Stewart's top ten holiday appetizers perfect for a midnight buffet, and The Oregonian has ideas for Champagne alternatives for New Year's Eve.
For this week's challenge we want all of you to report back on your New Year's spreads. Whether it's a magnum of Dom Perignon and ounces of osetra or pigs in a blanket and a keg, we want to hear all about what you ate, drank, and served on New Year's Eve. Share your recipes for punch and canapés, tell us about a special bottle or celebratory meal, and if you're going out, let us know where and what you ate.
Show us photos of your buffet tables and bars Photograzing (make sure to include "Cook and Tell" in your submission title), and tell us about your recipes here! If you'd like to blog the experience, please leave a link in the comments below. We'll post a round-up of your farewell to 2010 ideas, recipes, and experiences next Wednesday.
