Over Thanksgiving my 85-year-old grandmother told me about her favorite childhood recipe -- something her mom had made for her. She doesn't have the recipe and can't figure out how it was made. It's something like a date-pudding-meringue pie/cake. She's from rural southern Illinois, if that helps. Here's a bit more info:

It starts with a cookie or graham cracker crust, and then there is a layer of pudding with dates mixed in. Then a layer of pecans, and then a meringue (in the middle of the pie). And then another layer of pudding/dates/pecans and yet another meringue.

Any ideas?? I would absolutely LOVE to surprise her with it for Christmas!
