Yes, I know Amex is touting the day, but you don't have to use an Amex card, because Small Business Saturday is a pretty good idea.

The big guys all cash in on Black Friday, but remember that nice little butcher shop down the street that you go to for special occasions or the family owned kitchenware shop you run to for tart pans that BBB would never have? Don't take these places for granted, they could easily disappear, and that would be a sad thing for our communities. And often our stomachs.

So before you start trolling the mall on Saturday for a frying pan, or the mega-mart for some chops, consider if the money wouldn't be better spent in a place where it will contribute to your own neighborhood?
