Which miso should I use for soup?

I'm going to have some unexpected time on my hands this month, and I'm going to try to do a little reorienting of my eating. Thought I'd try miso soup for breakfast, but I don't know what color miso to get. I want to stay away from wheat this month too, so I'd like to avoid using miso that's been made with wheat.

What do you all use? What else do you put in your miso soup?
