My first pizza dough..or any dough for that matter

After reading "How to Make No-Knead Pizza Dough (No-Knead Pizza 101)" I finally got the courage to give this a shot even though I've never touched dough ever! I've had a fear of doughs, knowing how steep the learning curve is and had not interest in making 10 of them for the sake of learning, given the fact that they are so time consuming (waiting overnight for a rise). I used 1/2 whole wheat pastry flour (for a healthier option) and 1/2 bread flour and instant granulated yeast (in packets). I really enjoyed it and it was very tasty, although my crust and outer edge was really dense. What did I do wrong? I was hoping for a bubbly airy outer edge and instead got a hard cracker texture. Every other element of the dough was exactly as I like it except the outer edge. Can someone help? I should mention that I used my electric oven set to 550 with a sheet pan turned upside down and put it on the bottom of the oven for about 20 minutes. I got the pizza ready on parchment paper and slid it onto the back of that sheet pan and it took about 8 minutes to cook. Again, everything was perfect except the crust...HELP! (i'd love to attach pics b/c they came out awesome but it doesn't look like you can do that in the "Talk" section.
