Weekend Cook and Tell: Independence Day Inspirations

Welcome to the Weekend Cook and Tell. Every Wednesday we thumb through the pages the food sections of various national newspapers to create a weekend cooking project. We hope you'll cook along with us and share your experiences, recipes, and photos here.

Independence Day weekend is one of those unique times when you can be pretty sure that most of the country is on the same page. Grilling, relaxing out of doors, and enjoying the company of your friends and family seems to be what this weekend is all about. The backyard barbecue over July 4th weekend is a great tradition and a tasty one at that.

This week's challenge isn't all that much of a challenge at all considering that most of you will be spending the weekend kicking back, cooking out, and taking in fireworks displays in honor of Independence Day. We want to hear all about what's on the menu this July 4th weekend. Is it going to be a burgers and dogs kind of weekend, or perhaps steaks and chicken? Do you have plans to bake the ubiquitous strawberry and blueberry studded flag cake? Tell us all about your grilling plans, favorite cookout recipes, best cool summer salads, cocktails, and desserts.

Show us photos of your crisp creations on Photograzing (make sure to include "Cook and Tell" in your submission title), and tell us about your recipes here! If you'd like to blog the experience, please leave a link in the comments below. We'll post a round-up of your patriotic spreads next Wednesday.
