Pine nuts substitute for pesto?
I was just at the co-op expecting to get pine nuts, which I'd avoided at the grocery store because they were $18 a pound, only to find they were $32 a pound at the co-op!
I've tried walnuts before and found them so-so, tried and liked sunflower seeds but they turned the pesto grey.
Do you use any other nut instead of pine nuts? Use part pine nuts and something else?
I usually freeze my pesto for the winter in ice cube trays, but am now wondering if I'll freeze it without nuts and add later. Have you tried freezing pesto partially made?
