Eating Out
How much is TOO much to spend on a meal?
Something I've been considering recently is how much we can be expected to pay for a meal. I firmly believe in giving oneself the opportunity to experience great chefs' work. But I have been starting to question a bit how much certain tasting menus are costing. On the one hand, with a truly great restaurant, somewhere you probably won't return to often, money shouldn't be considered a limiting agent. However, on the other, should I feel guilty about questioning the cost of just one meal?
While we are able to see the whole process of a chef through technique/innovation that is presented to us on a plate (which is what tends to lure us back), do you draw a line at a certain point, or do you put yourself at the behest of the chef in all situations, no matter the cost?
