Anemia/Low White Blood Count and Diet

So, I thought that I would reach out to my fellow SE'ers for this one. I have been dealing with some rather strong medical issues recently, and am now being tested for a few more things, but I know that my white blood count is extremely low...more than just anemia. More like someone who is fighting off something really bad, really hard. My mother (a nurse) has suggested a change in diet, but I would like to know your suggestions for that. More red meat? No foreign-caught fish?
Have any of you ever dealt with this, and how did you change your diet to help, if you did?
