Candied rose petals and other rosy things

I have some nice old fashioned roses coming into bloom, and I'd love to be able to preserve the petals for desserts, etc. Most of the instructions I've seen (egg whites and super fine sugar) say that they'll keep for a couple of weeks, but I'd like to keep them longer.

Can I freeze them? Before, or after they're candied? What other things have you done with rose petals (besides having them in salads?)

Do you think it would work to put them in pasta? Would I be able to dry the pasta for later use? I'm curious about your experience.
