Weekend Cook and Tell: School Lunches Reimagined

Welcome to the Weekend Cook and Tell. Every Wednesday we make our way through the food sections of various national newspapers to create a weekend cooking project. We hope you'll cook along with us and share your experiences, recipes, and photos here.

Ever since Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution premiered a few weeks back (read more about it in our recap) I haven't been able to shake those images of the ghastly school lunches out of my mind. Don't get me wrong, there's a time and place for chicken nuggets, but the food being served to most school children on a daily is pretty appalling.

This week Kim Severson wrote a piece for The New York Times about the attention that school lunches have been getting recently.

Instead of getting down to the nitty gritty of proper nutrition, for this week's challenge we are going to be taking a lighthearted look at school lunches and asking you to make a meal inspired by cafeteria fare.

Did you look forward to taco Tuesdays? Or were the square pieces of pizza the only reason to show up for class on Fridays? If you've ever dreamed about making your own chicken nuggets at home, this is the week to make it happen.

Show us your photos on Photograzing (make sure to include "Cook and Tell" in your submission title), and tell us about your recipes here! If you'd like to blog the experience, please leave a link in the comments below. We'll post a round-up of your photos and recipes next Wednesday with all of your cafeteria-inspired creations.
