I'd love to hear opinions (especially from servers or former servers!) about splitting checks in restaurants, especially where it's pricy enough for each individual wants to use a credit card instead of cash.

Is it terribly uncouth to throw down 10 credit cards? How to keep things simple, either amongst friends or in a business situation?
